Two years ago I told Nigerians that we would pursue corruption without fear or favour, and that we would be judged by results. Today I render account.
In twenty-four months the Commission has secured 7,503 convictions and recovered over ₦566 billion, alongside significant recoveries in foreign currencies and digital assets. We have opened more than 29,000 investigations and returned assets to victims of fraud — pensioners, investors, ordinary savers.
But I caution against celebrating numbers. Convictions are a symptom of a disease we must ultimately prevent. That is why we established the Directorate of Fraud Risk Assessment and Control — to stop the haemorrhage before it begins — and why we have invested in our people, our forensics and our partnerships across borders.
The fight against corruption is not a sprint of one chairman’s tenure. It is a relay. My duty is to run my leg faithfully and hand over a stronger baton.
